Turbo Metro Fun!
Working on the tune after rebuilding the brake calipers. I am really considering going air to air intercooler from the present air to water. but, still a fun little car!

The most common question I get asked on this channel is how do you control a variable nozzle turbo on a gasoline engine. I hope this will help explain visually how this works. as many of you know, a variable nozzle turbo effectively has an open and closed setting with an infinitely variable position between those two extremes. by taking a standard wastegate pod and modifying it so there is a po...

Hey are you still running the vnt turbo on this car? I'm planning a project in the future with a vnt turbo on a gas engine but I'm concerned about it spooling to quick at low rpm and causing high cylinder pressures and knock down low likewise boost creep at higher rpm due to the vnt's lack of a wastegate and the engine i plan to use putting out a bit more exhaust gas up top then the original engine the turbo came from does, I'm also curious about the lifespan of a vnt on a gas engine as I've heard they don't last as long on a gas engine and that's why they aren't used as much on gas engines. Tbh i don't even know if these are concerns to begin with but i thought I'd ask someone with experience.

@@theking497 not a problem. I'm debating on doing a video at some point in the future on the VNT operation without a electronic controller. I get many questions about that. Truth is with work and a young family, I really have not had as much time in the shop as I used to. In a nutshell though, I adapted the Garrett GT 2256 V for this application. I used a vacuum actuated boost controller from a Volkswagen TDI which I modified

When the engine is not under load/boost, you want the vanes open to allow a less restrictive exhaust. When it is under boost, the vanes will open in relation to the pressure to keep the boost at set point. It is a very simple and reliable setup

I put a lot of those Pratt’s internal bi-pass JT-8’s through the test cells.Let’s don’t go back to the JT-3’s, (military J52’s) Gas hog smokers mass air displacers , whooa let’s go! Every jet engine has it’s own compressor signature. What you say? Can’t hear you? I just here a high pitch sound? Grind and compress that air, let’s go! Why are there pistons? Somebody likes sitting over the leading edge or is that in the back,MD-80’s I always sit there, just a little forward of the compressor blades, don’t want to get chopped in half in case they go somewhere else.
